Harris County’s cashless bail policy for misdemeanors upheld
The policy dates to a 2019 settlement after the county’s cash bail system was found to exacerbate poverty while not “meaningfully” promoting public safety.
In a 40-page opinion Monday, United States District Judge Lee Rosenthal ruled that the attorney general's office exceeded the amount of time it has to make certain arguments in the case, therefore making its legal challenge to vacate the consent decree moot.
