With a new payment system on Austin buses, this year will be an especially easy one for Austin City Limits Musicestival-goers to get to and from the Zilker area for cheap. CapMetro, the city's local bus operator, introduced a tap-to-pay system that works with credit cards, debit cards, and mobile wallets earlier this year.
Tap-to-pay makes riding the bus easier for some travelers (and under-prepared Austinites), since they won't have to download the Umo App for bus passes.
A press release reminding bus riders of the changes lists three routes that are convenient for festival-goers: Routes 3 and 803 to Barton Springs and North Lamar (to the east of Zilker Park), and Route 30 to the west side of the park. The busses to the east side will drop riders off less than a mile from the festival.
Festival-goers who stay out late can catch CapMetro's Night Owl buses until 3 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Those leaving town on CapMetro Rail have until 12:30 am each night of the festival to catch their trains.
