A mountain climb becomes a much bigger journey in “UHURU,” a sharp and hilarious new dramedy at Houston’s Alley Theatre.
Written by Gloria Majule and directed by Shariffa Ali, the production follows an unlikely group attempting a “Tanzanian-only” ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. Along the way, they confront questions of identity, cultural perspective, access and belonging.
Actors David Gow and Michael Oleyede join Houston Life to share more about the production, the inspiration behind the story and how humor and satire bring its timely themes to the stage.
