Just when I think I’ve seen everything Reddit has to offer, some obscure subreddit pops up and proves me wrong. There are seemingly endless numbers of them, so realistically you don’t have enough time to browse your way to the bizarre, underappreciated stuff.
But with a site like Map of Reddit, you might be able to find those niche subreddits a bit easier. It’s a free, interactive site that plots more than 116,000 subreddits as dots in one giant galaxy. Each dot represents a community and the closer two dots are together, the more overlap their communities have.
The map is built from around 1.5 billion Reddit comments, which makes for a more nuanced and accurate picture of relationships rather than an algorithmic guess at which topics belong together. And you might be surprised at how some of the neighbors are ones you’d never predict—quizzically looking at you Twitter and FBI subreddits.
The map is fully interactive so you can click and drag to move around, zoom in, or use the search bar to find a specific subreddit. If you click on a community dot, you’ll get some more information plus links to all of the related subreddits.
